Benefits Advice and Application Support for Older People

The benefits system can be hard to navigate — different schemes, long forms and rules that aren't always obvious. If you're not sure which benefit might apply to you or a relative, that's a normal place to start. We'll help you work out what may be relevant and support you through the application.

Not Sure Which Benefit Applies?

Many people know they — or an older relative — could probably use some support, but don't know whether that's Attendance Allowance, Pension Credit, a Blue Badge, or something else entirely. Each covers a different need:

  • Attendance Allowance — if illness or disability makes everyday personal care or staying safe difficult
  • Pension Credit — if weekly income is low, and to unlock help with housing, Council Tax and health costs
  • Blue Badge — if a condition affects mobility and parking close to your destination would help

They can also overlap — an Attendance Allowance award, for example, can increase a Pension Credit entitlement. A benefits check looks at the whole picture rather than one benefit at a time.

Help With Complex Forms

Benefit forms ask detailed questions, and the way answers are phrased can matter a lot. Many people understate their difficulties because they've learned to cope, or leave out needs that seem "normal" to them.

We sit down with you — at home where needed — and go through the paperwork properly, so the application reflects your real situation rather than a best-case day.

Helping a Parent or Older Relative

A large share of our enquiries come from sons, daughters, carers and other family members. If you're worried about an older person who may be missing out on support — or struggling with a form — you can contact us on their behalf.

We'll help you understand what may apply to their situation, then work with them directly, with their agreement, to complete any applications.
